WELCOME TO LARGS DENTAL SURGERY

Alison McGregorIsabel Saunderson, Sheryl Shankland, Drew McIntyre and Yiwen Wang are associates within the practice.

The practice is primarily a National Health Service practice and as such will provide all the necessary treatment to secure and maintain your oral health. However, there are increasingly some treatments (mainly cosmetic) which are not available under the NHS regulations. You may choose to have these procedures, or any other treatments carried out privately as an alternative to NHS work. We are always happy to discuss these options with you.

It is our policy for each patient to see one dentist on a continuing basis. If, for any reason, this is not possible, suitable arrangements can be made for you to see another dentist within the practice for a dental emergency appointment if required in your dentist’s absence.

Our Dental Hygienist, Susan Birch works on a part-time basis. Susan will clinically help treat and prevent periodontal disease by scaling and polishing teeth. Susan will motivate and encourage patients in oral health practices, including oral hygiene and dietary advice.

Dental repairs can normally be repaired within two working days, if handed in before 10.30am, Monday- Thursday.

We always try to see patients at the appointed time. If you are kept waiting, there is normally a good reason. Please be patient.

If you require to cancel an appointment, we require 24 hours’ notice where possible. This enables us to make alternative arrangements – perhaps to see someone in pain. We reserve the right to charge for broken appointments. The company will charge £1 per minute of the booked appointment time for a failed appointment.

If you are in one of the following categories you may qualify for full or partial exemption from NHS charges: under 26, an expectant mother, a mother with a child under one year, income support, job seekers allowance, working family tax credit or on a low income. If in doubt, please ask. Note that new regulations require us to see proof of benefit or age.

Please keep us informed about any drugs that you may be prescribed and about any medical history whether or not you think it relevant.

As a caring practice we take all necessary and recommended precautions to safeguard both patients and staff against blood-borne infections such as HBV and HIV. We follow all recommended guidelines with regards to the cleaning and sterilisation of instruments and the use of disposables wherever practical.

We do not have facilities suitable for wheelchair access as our premises are situated on the first floor. Home visit dental assessments can be arranged for NHS housebound patients, and should any treatment be required, we can then refer patients to the Public Dental Service to be able to provide dental treatment as treatment is limited in a home setting, as many treatments require to be carried out in a clinical setting.

We’re committed to providing a quality dental care service to all child patients in a gentle, positive and fun environment. We believe positive dental experiences start at birth and actively encourage parents/guardians to bring babies along. You will be given advice suitable to the age of your child and, as your baby grows, we’ll tailor the introduction of new things slowly and appropriately, so we do not create any concern or worry for your child. We want your child to be happy visiting the dentist.

Practice working methods are reviewed regularly at meetings of all staff. We encourage all staff to make suggestions for improving the care we give patients. All dentists in the practice take part in continuing professional education, meeting the General Dental Council’s requirements. We aim to keep up to date with current thinking on all aspects of general dentistry, including preventive care which reduces your need for treatment.

All staff joining the practice are given training in practice-wide procedures. Once a year, there is an individual review of training needs for everyone in the practice. All members of the practice know of the need to ensure that dentists are working safely. In the unlikely event that a dentist in this practice becomes unfit to practise, we have systems to ensure that concerns are investigated and, if necessary, acted upon.

We offer a full range of Private treatments including Tooth whitening, tooth-coloured restorations, ceramic crowns, bridges and veneers, inlays and onlays.

Alison McGregor offers non-surgical procedures to rejuvenate your facial appearance using dermal fillers, skin pen and wrinkle reduction treatments. She also offers non-surgical treatments to reduce underarm sweating.

We hope that our surgery has been decorated and equipped to create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in which to treat you. We are always happy to hear your comments.

Finally, if you have a complaint please approach us verbally in the first instance. If we cannot resolve the problem, there and then we have the recognised complaints procedure in place. This requires you to write to The Complaints Officer.

Please note that we have a zero tolerance policy, if a patient is verbally abuse to staff, you will be deregistered from the practice.

Dental examinations are free for all NHS patients. An estimate will be given for any treatment required. A scale of basic NHS charges is on display in our waiting area. Private charges are available within the practice.

In proposing treatment, we will take account of your own wishes. We will explain options, where appropriate, and costs, so that you can make informed choice. We will always explain what we are doing.

Fees are payable prior to the commencement of treatment, and we accept cash and most debit/credit cards.

Should it be required, we have access to an interpreter through Language Line Solutions, telephone 08453109900.

Information regarding dental provision within your area can be obtained by contacting NHS Ayrshire & Arran, telephone 01292 513848.
